All writers have different ways of getting ‘inside’ their characters. I find that sketching them gets me really thinking about who they were and how they might have interacted with their world. From the proud and haughty to the loyal and true, somehow their characters are revealed by their looks. Where possible, I began with statues of those characters whose likenesses have been preserved and tried to get a composite from how their contemporaries saw them.
I have started a small gallery of my sketches to share with readers. Making no claim to being an artist, I hope these can be enjoyed as simple insights into my creative process.
